This package is full of functions and features and the graphics are impressive. I would not recommend this product to the occasional user who has 20 bottles to track, but give it a thumbs up for all others. 

I tested the June 2002 version, which came with over 9000 sample wines and producer information. I liked the idea of a one-click means to go to the producers Website, if a URL address has been configured. 

Adding new wines is easy, either by entering all pertaining data or by using an existing wine from that producer and changing things like vintage. A map of wine producing countries can be displayed, but I found that to be useless because it's simply a country or regional map with very limited information. Great product, highly recommend.

Free cellar management software for Windows.  Vinoté+Plus uses uniquely numbered neck tags for ease of recording and locating bottles.   Each Vinoté  Neck-tag carries a unique number displayed in both human readable and  barcode form.  Every bottle has a tag attached to it; the tag number is  recorded in the database along with wine data.  Powerful sort, search and  filter options make selection easy.  Selected bottles are then located using the tag number.  Empty bottles can be disposed while the tags are retained  to ensure the removal of the bottles is accurately recorded.

Adding a wine is actually pretty nicely designed. The producer is first entered and a list of wines from that producer is then displayed in a subsequent window. There were many duplicates, but in different variations and I assume the list was created from entries by other  users. 

I received a SQL error on a bottle that I attempted to add at a later time. Bottle prices are entered in round numbers, i.e. 24 not 23.49 or 24.29. Not a big deal, but could throw off the cumulative value of all bottles. Sorting options are good and satisfy most options. Selecting the "help" menu unfortunately replaces the current window and I believe it would make more sense to bring it up in a separate window so as not to loose the window or having to hit the "back" button several times. Software is picky and creates errors if not all fields are completed. 

Important to remember is that you can not use the browser's back button because the software is designed using frames. You must use the provided screen "back" button, otherwise you might mess up the window.

The way to navigate to the "tasting notes" is not straightforward and several "clicks" and window changes are required to get there. One feature allows advertising your wine label collection to other users or soliciting a label that you would like to have. There are no report functions and in order to produce a printed list of wines one must select the "print" function selected from the browser's "FILE" menu.

Although I had some initial problems maneuvering around and the software is somewhat limited in functions and features I do recommend it , but only because it is free. Keep in mind, however, there are no backup capabilities and if the host cuts you off you will loose all your data.

If you have more than a few bottles of wine, or if you just want to keep track of all the wine you have tried throughout the years, this is the site for you.

More than 73,000 bottles have been cataloged with BottleCount. Many people have over a hundred bottles each.

Retrieving and printing previously entered bottles is easy and the list displayed can be sorted by different criteria. This software is easy to use and offers the necessary variables to keep track of ones wine. Not sophisticated or fancy, but does a nice job. Keep in mind, however, that in the event the Website goes away you will loose your date because there is no backup or download features. 

Online Wine Cellar Manager. Manage and consult your wine cellar with MyCellarBook.com and access to it from any machine connected to the internet.   Import/Export your wines in a text format file easily readable by your own cellar software or Excel.  Your wines are sorted by region, year or personal criteria. Receive an e-mail when one of your wines must be drunk.

The first problem I ran into was when I tried to enter an appellation. I was only able to make a selection from a pre-defined scroll-down list. This is not good because the one I wanted was not listed and I was unable to specify a new one. The same was true with "Variety" I could not enter my own and the provided names are not complete. 

For each wine you can paste your own label or select one from a list of available ones into the notes. There is an import and export function. I did not test the import function, but did run through the motion of exporting using the Excel format. This went surprisingly well and quick. The exported file can serve as a backup file in the event it has to be reloaded or the host cuts off access to the Website for any reason.

Overall, the product is very easy to use, offers limited functions and features, but I found it to be a good product if all you want is a simple, straightforward software to track wines.

Robert Parker's Wine Advisor & Cellar Manager is the first and only software developed in conjunction with Robert Parker and derived from his newsletter, The Wine Advocate. The software combines an extensive database of wine information with a unique Visual Cellar Manager. Since its introduction three years ago it has become the fastest selling software for the serious wine connoisseur.

Bottles can be displayed in a graphical format, as they are stored in your cellar. For example it may show a bin loaded with bottles, a click on any bottle displays the label and associated info for this bottle. Problem is that if you cellar layout out is not similar, the feature is useless. 

The purchased product includes prices for about 8000 wines. That's great, but I'm sure prices vary greatly between countries and states and may not accurately reflect what you would pay for it. Pop-up windows pop up all the times, it can add to the confusion. 

While I did not spent an enormous amount of time test driving this software I found it initially difficult to navigate my way around. I suppose it will get easier with time and a hard-core user will probably enjoy all the features. 

For the cost of the standard version of $95.95 and the Deluxe version of $149.95, in my opinion, there are better products available, which are easier to use and navigate. Only recommended for the computer savvy that is willing to dig into this software.

Plenty of space to add tasting notes and the dates tasted. A somewhat primitive cellar map can be displayed where you can indicate the location of a specific bottle. Nice, but because my cellar is a mess and will never be organized I wouldn't use this feature, but I'm sure many of you will. 

There are plenty of graphic displays indicating when a wine is ready to drink, cost and value, and similar stuff. Although primitive, I like the graphics, they are big and clear. This product comes from Australia and a nice map display shows the various wine regions and wineries. There are also maps for California, France and New Zealand. Great feature. 

I like this product and for $40 U.S. bucks it's a good purchase.  .

Wine Organizer Deluxe is a complete program that allows wine collectors, hobbyists, wine clubs, and cellar's owners to organize, catalog, and manage their wine collections on their PCs. Organizer is intuitive and easy to use for the beginner, at the same moment feature-rich and powerful enough to satisfy the most advanced users.

A real easy and user friendly tool. The main window is uncluttered and well organized. In the left frame a listing of all your wines and on the right the details for each wine you select from the list. Features allow the creation of simple html to post notes on a Website.  Just a note, although I have not tested for this frame -designed Websites have a tendency to act "funny" when using the "back" browser button, unless integrated into the design.

If you track wine labels you can save a picture of a label for each or selected wines. Or with the "Screen Capture" feature a picture from a Website or anywhere on your desktop can be captured and pasted into the description of a wine. 

Primasoft lacks the sophisticated graphics that some other products offer, but if you can live with out them, this product will do a fine job.

There is no "add" button, so I was a little confusedbut completed the information for a new wine and simple went on to another function to verify that my wine was entered, and it was there. Each item entered, such as winery, style region, and so on, is automatically stored in a scroll-down list. Next time a wine is entered much info can be selected from the pull-down list. That's nice.

A nicely designed maintenance window can be used to enter producers, varietal, attributes and much more without having to enter wine. Again, the info added here later shows up in the scroll-down list. There is plenty of space to add notes and a separate field to enter food-pairing suggestions. A one-click option displays all the wines in your cellar. An import/export options is also included. 

The print function is intuitive and has several options to format and sort output. There are no fancy pictures or graphics available, but I like the software because of its simplicity.

Simple design and navigation is key, but the graphics used to make the windows look pretty are of poor quality. Initially I had a problem finding the window that allows me to add a wine. Entering a new wine and related information is not straightforward. On one screen I received an error message that actually told me that I missed to enter data in a field on a previous screen. 

I also ran into the problem of designating a region (Nappa) for a California wine and the only choice was "other". Nappa was not on their list and  I was unable to specify my own designation. This is true for all non-French wines. It does allow me to specify the physical location of each bottle in my cellar. This is good for the organized person, I don’t need this in my cellar since it’s a mess and I like it. 

While this software is shareware (which does not mean it’s free) and the author requests only $15, I would not recommend it. Even for the simplest cellar this software does not offer the minimum functions and features.

A variety of reports can be produce, including graphical statistics. I like the layout of the printed reports, clean and easy to read. The help manual appears in a separate browser window. It appears to be pretty complete and I did not have problems finding my way around. There is also an Internet interface to the Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ) Website, which you can search for specific wines or you can specify a URL of your choosing, such as winesearcher.com. If you are concerned about the safety of your data there is even a backup and restore function. Something I have not seen in other products (but may have overlooked).

Great product with great functions, well worth the US $39.

Despite the layout adding the very first bottle was not as easy as expected. Once the country for my Beringer bottle of White Zinfandel was selected I had difficulties selecting a state and region from the pull-down menu. It did not show any entries and I was unable to enter more than two characters in each field. So, I just entered an abbreviation and went on to the second bottle. Now all the pull-down menus worked OK and I it showed states and regions appropriately. Since all entries in state and region are predefined I wanted to add my own state and region and I selected Texas since it was not on the list. I was unable to add the new state and could never figure out how to do it. Unfortunately, a help manual is not included. This is not good because I had the need to refer to one on several occasions. Another annoying thing was that my cursor remained an hourglass throughout the use of the software.

Adding wines is done via a simple input screen. Some fields use pull-down menus from which to select an entry, but most lack sufficient selections. For example, "classification" provides for only 5 choices, we know there are more. The same is true for "region".

The only means to view a list of my wines was by performing a search and selecting any vintage and any producer. The subsequent list is simple and can not be sorted into a different order. When I mistakenly forgot to un-click a field I received a list of wines of over 1000 and obviously the vast majority did not belong to me since I only entered 5 during my test. I was not allowed to view tasting notes for any of the wines that did not belong to me. So what is the sense of displaying wines that were entered by someone else? There are no backup features and you may loose all your information if the site owners decide to cut you off. There is an export function, but only to their PC version of the software CellarMate. I do not believe that this tool provides the basic functionality one would expect in a cellar management product. There are just too many basic features missing. I would not recommend using this tool.

I was a little confused when trying to add a wine to "my" cellar. Normally one would enter information first and then hit the "add" button. In this case one needs to hit the "add" button first, enter the information and then hit the "update" button. But, before I could even do that I had to setup the winery and region. Once this info is entered I could go ahead and add my wine. I found this a little annoying at first, but got used to it real quick. Earliest and latest drink dates, cellar location and exporting to spreadsheet or html code are nice features. 

There are no fancy graphs and statistics are limited to number of bottles in cellar, value and a list of the wines.

A previous version, 7.5, is available for free but one need  a subscription to view all the tasting notes in the database.

Entering new wines was a bit confusing at first. Once I entered a few bottles I clicked on a tab called "cellar", which displays information about the wines in the database, such as cost, name, storage location and so on. There were several bottles I previously entered missing from the list and I could not figure out why.

Next I tried to enter notes for a wine tasted at a restaurant. Once all pertinent info was added I also had an option to add the names of the guests that were present. This is a nice feature if one wants to recall at a later time who was present at what event. Other options, such as report generation works well. Nothing spectacular, but sufficient for most.

Another option allows keeping a journal, complete with moon phases, temperatures and weather conditions. Since I am not what I would consider a wine geek I’m not sure what to do with this information, but some may just like this.

All in all this is a decent package at a decent price. No fancy graphics and stuff, but the necessary things to keep track of your wine, and a little more.

WINETASTER is a program that allows you to analyze the rankings or grades assigned to wines in a "blind" tasting by a number of judges. It gives you two basic options:

1. You can ask the participants in the tasting to "rank" wines, i.e., assign ranks such as 1 (for the one a judge liked best), 2, etc.
2. You can ask judges to "grade' the wines, i.e., assign grades such as "Parker grades" on a scale of, say, 1 to 100 or 1 to 20 or whatever.

The program will ask you to input the names of the "judges," their rankings or grades of the wines, and only after all the ranks or grades have been entered will it ask you to input the names of the individual wines (which should not be revealed before all the ranks or grades have been entered). (Normally, in a tasting you might be told which wines you will be drinking, but the bottles will be covered and identified only with letters such as A, B, C, etc., so that you do not know which wine is which).

WINETASTER will then compute a number of statistical measures to identify

• The degree of agreement or disagreement among the judges
• The ranksums for each wine (i.e., the sums of the ranks assigned to each wine by the various judges; the higher the ranksum to lower it is ranked)
• The correlation between the rankings (or grades) of each judge with the average ranking of the other judges (i.e., who is the "odd person out")
• The perceived quality of the wines by the group of judges and its statistical significance

The information that is computed is then arranged by the program in a ready-to-print report, with the additional option that you may add descriptive comments on the significance of the tasting.
